1.who we are
simp is an app and website run by Eight Network Creations Private Limited ("we", "us"), a private limited company incorporated in India, with its registered office at 3rd Floor, Golden Tower, 697, 12th Cross Rd, 1st Sector, HSR Layout, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560102, India.
We are the Data Fiduciary for your personal data under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 ("DPDP Act"). This policy explains what we collect when you use simp, why, who else handles it, and the choices you have.
2.what we collect
| what | what it includes | why |
|---|---|---|
| your phone number | the number you sign in with | to sign you in with a one-time code, or with Truecaller if you choose it |
| about you | name, age band, gender, languages, timezone, quiet hours, texting style | to set up the app and how companions talk to you |
| birth details | date, time and place of birth, only if you share them | to compute your chart for astrology companions |
| your chats | messages you send and the replies you get | to run the conversation |
| memory | facts, people, dates and moments companions learn from your chats | so companions remember you |
| device and app | an install ID, platform, app version, push token, the campaign you installed from | to send notifications and keep the app working |
| usage events | which features you use, app version, session | to understand and improve simp |
| IP address | the address a sign-in request comes from | to limit repeated sign-in attempts |
| reports | a message you report and the 20 messages before it | so people can review it for safety |
You cannot send photos or voice notes in simp, so we do not collect them from you. The photos and voice notes in the app come from companions.
3.how we use it
We use your personal data to:
- sign you in and keep your account secure;
- write companion replies, and let companions remember what you share and text you first;
- apply your plan, daily limits and settings, such as quiet hours;
- keep simp safe, including the age limit, crisis responses and reviewing reports;
- understand how simp is used so we can fix and improve it;
- meet our legal obligations.
You give consent when you sign up and accept these terms. You can withdraw it at any time by deleting your account.
4.your chats and AI companions
Companions are AI. To write a reply, our servers send the relevant part of your conversation and what the companion remembers about you to an AI model provider (see section 5). Your chats are not end-to-end encrypted.
Your chats are private to you. They are never shown to other users and never sold. Content you report is reviewed by people.
Model improvement is off unless you turn it on in settings. When it is on, anonymised chats may be used to improve the companions. You can turn it off again at any time.
6.where it is stored and how we protect it
We store your data on Amazon Web Services in Mumbai, India. Some of the services in section 5 process data outside India, as the DPDP Act permits.
Some of the ways we protect it:
- sign-in codes are stored only as a one-way hash and expire after 5 minutes;
- session tokens are stored hashed, and every session ends when you delete your account;
- phone numbers are masked in our logs;
- media is served through signed links;
- repeated sign-in attempts are rate-limited.
No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep yours safe and to fix problems quickly.
7.how long we keep it
| data | how long |
|---|---|
| your account, chats and memory | while your account exists |
| after you delete your account | 7 days, then erased from our systems: messages, memory, profile, events and media. Copies in backups expire after a limited period. |
| prompt text in our AI request logs | 30 days |
| server logs | 14 days |
| your data export link | 7 days |
| backups and usage events | a limited period, after which they are deleted |
After an account is erased we keep a record that it was deleted, without its contents. When you tell a companion to forget a fact, we keep a marker so it is not learned again.
8.your choices and rights
In the app, any time:
- forget a memory: removes that fact from every companion, and they won't learn it again;
- clear all memories: companions forget everything they learned about you; your chats, and facts you typed about yourself, stay;
- delete a chat: removes the conversation and that companion's memory of you;
- export your data: we send a download link that works for 7 days;
- delete your account: signs you out everywhere and erases your data from our systems after 7 days; signing back in before then cancels it;
- model improvement, quiet hours, notification previews: turn each on or off in settings.
Under the DPDP Act you can also ask us for a summary of your personal data and how we process it, ask us to correct, complete or erase it, nominate someone to exercise your rights if you die or become unable to, and raise a grievance with us (section 12). If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India. To make a request, email stream@eight.network with the phone number on your account, or use the options in the app.
9.children and teens
simp is for people 13 and over. If you tell us you are under 13, your account is locked and you are signed out. Your age band is set once and cannot be changed in the app.
If you are 13 to 17, you only see companions made for teens, never romantic ones, and adult settings stay off. If you think a child under 13 is using simp, email stream@eight.network and we will act on it.
10.safety
If a message suggests you may be in crisis, the companion's reply points you to Tele-MANAS, India's free mental health helpline, at 14416. In an emergency, call 112.
You can report a companion or a message from the chat. A report includes the reported message and the 20 messages before it, and is reviewed by people.
11.this website
This website does not use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers, and its fonts are served from our own domain. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs, such as IP address and pages requested, to run and secure the site.
